A brief history of the

Sybarite Chamber Players

In the summer of 1997 five young string players at the Aspen Music Festival decided to band together to perform chamber music on a street corner, and called themselves the Sybarite Quintet. In the following years at the group grew as an ensemble and continued to meet in Aspen to push the limits of the string quintet genre. In 2002, the Sybarite Quintet was to represent the Aspen Music Festival on the Aspen-Salida Concert series where it performed to critical acclaim. Shortly after that, the Sybarite Quintet became one of the most desired ensembles at the Aspen Music Festival.
Since then, the Quintet has been featured on the LaSalle chamber music series in Cincinnati, Classical Thursdays at the Time Warner Center in New York City, and numerous concerts series in Aspen, and but is probably known best for obtaining sponsorship to provide over 300 free family concerts at the Paradise concert series in Aspen from 1998-2007. During the Paradise concerts the Quintet found uncanny success in performing and juxtaposing the likes of Mozart, Led Zeppelin, Stravinsky, Radiohead, Vivaldi, Grieg, and Penderecki, to name a few.
Devoted to expanding the repertoire for string quintet, the ensemble filed for non-profit status in the fall 2005 when they officially took on the new name of The Sybarite Chamber Players. Today, the Sybarite Chamber Players is considered to be one of the most versatile ensembles of its kind, nimbly programming the most fresh and daunting combinations of music styles. The members of the ensemble have performed with some of the finest ensembles in the US and abroad including the Metropolitan Opera, Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, Cleveland Orchestra, Pittsburgh Symphony, New World Symphony, Rochester Philharmonic, Florida West Coast Symphony, IRIS Chamber Orchestra, Calder Quartet and Elektra Chamber Players. The Sybarite Chamber Players is based in Manhattan and continues to perform at the Aspen Music Festival, pioneering the groundbreaking performances of the old and the new.
