A very Happy 2012 from Sybarite5!
First, a very exciting piece of news: Our bassist, Louis Levitt and his wife, Blythe, welcomed their first child, Ian on January 11. We congratulate them and welcome baby Ian into the Sybarite5 family! We are looking forward to an extremely busy 2012! Our next concert takes place at Penn State Erie, February 2 on the “Music at Noon” Logan Series. We are very excited for our second Pennsylvania show, and to get an opportunity to work with some students from Penn State University’s Behrend Campus. Additionally, our cellist Laura Metcalf is looking forward to going back to a place where she has deep ancestral roots. Her great-grandfather was the conductor of the Erie Philharmonic in the 1930’s, and her grandfather grew up in Erie.
Other engagements include a return to Concord, MA, where we performed a sold-out show last year, a first-time visit to Pawling, NY for their Concert Series, and a project with the Key Chorale in Sarasota, FL, where we will perform Radiohead with a choir for the first time!
We've also begun a new collaboration with the fast-rising composer Mohammed Fairouz, who has written us a piece called New York Minutes to be premiered with the Five Boroughs Music Festival. Stay tuned for more about our work with Mohammed in future posts! And we will of course be returning to our “home” here in New York City, the cell , for concerts as their Ensemble in Residence on March 31 and May 19. We hope to see you at a show soon!
