Sybarite5 is on the move!
Sybarite5 is on the move! We spent the month of July in Aspen, CO where we returned for a fourth summer as the official Alumni Ensemble of the Aspen Music Festival and School. While there, we performed and rehearsed nearly every day, and also recorded the final four tracks of our upcoming Radiohead Remixed album. We were lucky enough to record in the unparalleled acoustics of Harris Concert Hall, and to work once more with our wonderful engineer and friend, Michael Mermagen. After Aspen we made our way to Albuquerque, NM, and were so happy to return to this wonderful, welcoming city for the third year in a row. We performed two sold-out concerts in one day, on the Sunday Chatter and Chatter Cabaret series. We’d like to extend our thanks to the ever-hardworking Pamela and Don Michaelis, and to our dear friend James Shields for bringing us on board. We’re already looking forward to returning to ABQ for a fourth year! Now we’re back East and heading to Newfoundland, Canada for our Canadian debut at the Tuckamore Music Festival. There we will play two concerts, give a masterclass and collaborate with the distinguished faculty of the festival. After that we’ll head back to New York for concerts at the Chautauqua Music Festival and in Great Neck, Long Island. We could not be more excited for all of these shows! Speaking of excitement, we are also thrilled to announce that we’ve been awarded a grant from Chamber Music America to commission a piece by Andy Akiho. Andy is fast gaining a reputation as one of the most unique and talented composers of his generation, and whose music is being commissioned by the likes of the New York Philharmonic and the Los Angeles Philharmonic. He is also a versatile percussionist, playing both traditional instruments as well as the steel pans. We believe that his compositional style is a perfect fit for our ensemble, and we are so looking forward to this collaboration, and also extremely grateful to CMA for making it all possible! And if you’re in New York, please save the date for our Carnegie Hall debut at Zankel Hall on November 13! This will be our most exciting concert yet and we very much hope that our NYC family can join us. Keep checking back here and on our Facebook page for chances to win free tickets! And if you’re elsewhere, check out our concerts page to find out when we’re coming to your area.
Until next time, enjoy the summer! Syb5 Angela, Laura, Louis, Sami & Sarah
